Paradise Dunes is a family-run, self-catering establishment on the dune slope behind Praia do Tofo, on Mozambique’s Inhambane coast. Rather than hotel rooms, Paradise Dunes lets a handful of individually named houses: Casa Bonita, Casa Feliz, Casa Louis, Casa Joe and Casa Dos Amigos in its Classic Collection, with Casa Vivo in the newer Modern Collection.
Best for
Paradise Dunes suits couples and small families who want their own house within walking distance of Tofo beach and the village’s dive operators.
It suits less well travellers who want full-board hotel service, because the houses are self-catering and no meals are provided on site.
Location
The houses stand above the sand at Praia do Tofo, the address the owners themselves give. In a straight line it is about 937 m south-east of our Tofo village reference point. The name is the establishment’s own trading name, verified on its official website, where it appears on the logo, the contact page and every activity page.
Rooms and style at Paradise Dunes
Accommodation is arranged as separate casas. Casa Bonita is a one-bedroom unit for two, with a king-size bed, an en-suite bathroom, a compact kitchenette and a dining table for two, looking out to the ocean. Casa Feliz has two bedrooms and two en-suite bathrooms and sleeps four, with a queen bed in the master room, twin singles in the second, and a central lounge and dining area opening onto a deck; the two houses can be taken together for six. The other casas are listed separately and their layouts should be confirmed when booking.
Facilities at Paradise Dunes
Verified facilities include self-catering kitchens with cooking utensils, gas stoves, a fridge and freezer, fans and an outside braai at the house, together with pools, WiFi and a daily cleaning service. The owners also publish their own pages on scuba diving, snorkelling, spear fishing, deep-sea fishing, watersports and horse riding on the beach, so activities can be discussed directly with Paradise Dunes.
Trade-offs and what to know
There is no restaurant or bar on site, so guests shop in Tofo or eat at the village’s own places.
Bedroom and bathroom details are published for only some of the casas, so the layout of the house on offer needs checking before you commit.
Air conditioning is not stated for the units, only fans, so travellers sensitive to heat should ask what each house has.
Getting there and getting around
Praia do Tofo is reached by road from Inhambane town, which has road and light-aircraft links to the rest of the country. The owners do not state that a four-wheel-drive vehicle is needed, so guests arranging their own transport should confirm road conditions and any transfer with them in advance.
