Mozambique runs for more than 2,000 kilometres along the Indian Ocean, from the South African border to the Rovuma River. This guide groups the country into eight traveller regions, each built around the towns, islands and parks that visitors actually plan a stay around.

Start with a region to see its main places, then open a destination guide for the detail. Cabo Delgado in the far north is not covered at present because of current government travel advisories.

Distances are longer than they look

Road journeys between regions can take a full day or more, and many travellers combine internal flights with shorter drives. Plan fewer bases and longer stays rather than trying to cover the whole coast in one trip.
