Albufeira Camp is the Limpopo National Park rest camp at the Massingir Gate, on the Mozambican side of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park. The park authority describes it as the camp nearest the Massingir Dam wall and the one most used by travellers passing through the gate. Albufeira Camp is run by the park itself rather than by a private operator, and reservations go through the park tourism office.
Best for
Albufeira Camp suits self-drive travellers crossing between the Kruger side and Mozambique who want a simple serviced base at the park gate, and visitors who have come to fish or take a boat onto the Massingir Dam.
It suits less well anyone expecting a staffed safari lodge with catered meals and guided game drives, because the camp is self-catering.
Location
The camp stands at the Massingir Gate entrance to Limpopo National Park, in Massingir district in Gaza Province, close to the dam wall and above the reservoir. In a straight line it is about 5.1 km north of our Massingir reference point. The coordinate used here is the one published in the park’s own Parque Nacional do Limpopo fact sheet.
Rooms and style at Albufeira Camp
The park lists eleven chalets at Albufeira Camp: four two-bed wooden chalets, one four-bed reed chalet and six two-bed reed chalets. Each has an en-suite bathroom and an open-plan kitchenette with a two-plate stove, and the park states that linen, towels, crockery, cutlery, pots and pans are provided. Mosquito nets, covered decks, electricity, a fridge and fans are listed for the chalets. Eight campsites sit alongside them for visitors bringing their own tents.
Facilities at Albufeira Camp
Verified facilities include en-suite bathrooms, kitchenettes with two-plate stoves, fridges, fans and electricity in the chalets, covered decks, skottelbraai grills, and a communal kitchen and ablution block for the eight campsites. The park states that boating on the Massingir Dam and fishing are available, with fishing permits arranged through the park tourism facilities manager.
Trade-offs and what to know
Albufeira Camp is self-catering with no restaurant, so supplies have to be bought before you arrive.
Several units are reed chalets rather than solid-walled rooms, which will not suit every traveller.
The camp sits at the gate rather than inside the main game areas, so wildlife viewing means driving on.
Getting there and getting around
The park is entered at the Massingir Gate or the Mapai Gate, and from South Africa through the Giriyondo or Pafuri border posts. The park states that the main road between Giriyondo and Massingir is gravel and can be driven in a sedan, although higher-clearance vehicles are preferable, and that other roads inside the park need high ground clearance or four-wheel drive, especially in the wet season.

Before you book
Confirm the chalet type and bed configuration when you reserve, since the wooden and reed chalets differ, and check whether a chalet or a campsite is being held for you. Ask the park tourism office about payment arrangements, gate opening times, and permits for fishing or boating. Because the camp is self-catering, confirm what is supplied and what you need to bring.
Current rates and availability
We do not publish fixed rates for Albufeira Camp, because pricing and availability change with dates and demand. Use the Check Availability button on this page to see the current options offered by the independent booking provider. Mozambique Travel Guide does not set prices, hold inventory or take payment.
