Lighthouse Reef Casas is a self-catering holiday-home resort set on high dunes above the beach at Paindane, on Mozambique’s Inhambane coast. It comprises around 15 individual casas sharing a beach bar, pool and reef bay with its sister property, Esperanza Beach Lodge. Lighthouse Reef Casas mainly attracts self-drive families and groups booking a whole casa for a beach holiday.

Best for

Lighthouse Reef Casas suits large families or groups wanting a self-catering casa to themselves close to a sheltered reef bay.

It suits less well travellers wanting a fully serviced hotel stay, since housekeeping is only daily or seasonal and guests cater for themselves.

Location

Lighthouse Reef Casas sits on elevated dunes at Paindane, sharing its beach, bay and launching area with the neighbouring Esperanza Beach Lodge. In a straight line it is about 5.4 km south of our Cabo Guinjata reference point.

Rooms and style at Lighthouse Reef Casas

The official site lists around 15 self-catering casas of varying size, from two-guest units up to a fourteen-guest casa, with several described as sea-facing and at least one without a sea view. Each casa is supplied fully equipped, with furniture, linen, mosquito nets and gas included. Guests should confirm the exact casa allocated and its sleeping configuration when booking.

Facilities at Lighthouse Reef Casas

Verified facilities include a beach bar, a shared swimming pool, a sheltered beach and reef bay with a boat-launching area, and daily or seasonal housekeeping. The resort supplies furniture, utensils, linen, mosquito nets and gas within each casa, and a local supermarket operates near the resort for supplies.

Trade-offs and what to know

The final stretch of road needs a 4×4, so a standard sedan cannot reach the resort.

Facilities such as the pool, bar and beach are shared with the neighbouring Esperanza Beach Lodge rather than exclusive to Lighthouse Reef Casas.

Water supply is described as limited, so guests are asked to use it sparingly.

Getting there and getting around

Lighthouse Reef Casas is reached by road from Inhambane, with the final approach needing a 4×4 vehicle, and some beach routes restricted to 4x4s between marked points. Guests generally self-drive or arrange their own transport for the coastal roads leading in.

Explore the area

Before you book

Before booking, confirm which casa or chalet is allocated, its sleeping capacity and whether it has a sea view, since these vary widely across the resort. Check what catering, bedding and housekeeping is included, ask about fishing-permit and marine-activity rules if relevant, and note what guests are expected to bring themselves, such as towels, torches and malaria precautions.
