Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort is a villa resort on Bazaruto Island, the largest island in the Bazaruto Archipelago, inside Bazaruto National Park. With 44 villas it is a small, self-contained island stay, reached by boat or helicopter from Vilankulo on the mainland.

Best for

Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort suits couples and honeymooners, travellers who want to stay inside the national park rather than visit it on a day trip, and anyone planning to spend most of their time snorkelling, diving or on the water.

It suits less well travellers on a tight budget or those who want to explore independently; island stays depend on the resort for meals, activities and transfers.

Location

The resort is on Bazaruto Island in the Bazaruto Archipelago, off the coast of Inhambane Province. In a straight line it is about 6.8 km from our Bazaruto Island reference point. Everything on the island is reached through the resort, and the mainland town of Vilankulo is the gateway.

Rooms and style at Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort

According to the resort, there are 44 villas in three types: Beach Villas, Beach Pool Villas with a private plunge pool, and larger Two-Bedroom Sea View Pool Villas. The two-bedroom villas are the obvious choice for families or friends travelling together.

Facilities at Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort

Verified facilities include three restaurants, Golfinho, Tartaruga and Clube Naval, swimming pools, the Anantara Spa and a fitness centre. The resort lists activities such as scuba diving, snorkelling, deep-sea fishing, dune boarding and dhow cruises.

Trade-offs and what to know

Transfers add cost and planning. Boat transfers run on a schedule and depend on sea conditions, and helicopter transfers are the more expensive option.

This is a national park, so park fees and rules apply to visitors, and some activities depend on weather and tides.

With meals and activities provided by the resort, an island stay is less flexible than a mainland base in Vilankulo.

Getting there and getting around

Most guests fly to Vilankulo and then transfer to the island. The resort lists a scheduled boat transfer from Vilankulo and a private helicopter option. Check current transfer times, luggage limits and costs with the resort before you book your flights.
